The Impacts of Native American Media in South Dakota

Richie will talk about the history of Native American Media and it’s early successes. The role of Native American journalists in South Dakota, either in mainstream or independent outlets.  Finally, Richie will speak about the impact his own journalism has had in South Dakota. 

Bio: Richie Richards, 43, Oglala Sioux Tribe. I grew up on and off the reservations of South Dakota with a majority of my time spent in Rapid City. I left SD and moved to Washington State and eventually to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I attended the University of California, Berkeley to study Native American Studies. I recently moved back to Rapid City where I’ve been working as a journalist for Native Sun News Today newspaper and host of the Oyate Today television show.
