Issues Around Incarceration, Rehabilitation, and Re-Entry

During the Vietnam war I learned to resent having tax money support the military-industrial complex. In recent years I have learned to resent having tax money support the prison industrial complex. How did we get to be the country that incarcerates a larger percentage of its population than any other? How can we ever hope to rise out of this ugly morass? And how can we, collectively and individually, make a positive difference in the lives of the large numbers of “returning citizens” who are released from jails and prisons every day?
